Students work with a partner to design the setting of the story using a box and variety of materials. A challenge activity requires students to summarize the story. Each student is motivated to write their summary because of where it will be displayed. This activity includes the station card with step-by-step directions for a total of 2 pages.

Sequence Belt

Students use strips of paper to draw 3 major events from a story. The strips are then attached with yarn in order of how the events occurred forming a sequence belt to be worn proudly in the class. Students will fold their paper in half and cut on the dotted lines to create 4 flaps. They will follow directions by drawing or writing parts of the story under each flap. You can have this Literacy Station ready in a SNAP! Students compete against teammates for one minute to answer generic questions which can be used with most stories. As each question is answered correctly, they place it on a volcano mat. The first student to fill his or her mat in one minute wins the quest. A challenge activity requires students to complete a generic volcano story map.
