Each player will have a chance to read as many phrase cards as he/she can in one minute. When time is up, the phrase cards are counted and documented on the “Record Your Progress” sheet. Each player takes a turn to flash and say the word on each card in the stack. A point is earned for every word stated correctly. A sheet of paper is used to document points earned. If the player does not know a word, he/she must pass it on to another player. Once each player has had a turn to read all cards, the one with the highest number of words WINS! Each student will read a passage aloud 3 times while his/her partner uses a stop watch to time the readings. A medal is made to display reading times and to be worn proudly in class. Once the game is complete, a challenge activity requires students to write a sentence with each word they hopped on.
